The Area

The

Marvelous Midlands

Our neighbourhood is at one end of the famous Midlands Meander. The Midlands Meander is one of the largest and most popular arts and crafts routes in South Africa and extends over 80km between Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River with stunning sites and scenery along the way. The expansive countryside vistas and fresh air replenish body and soul, while the mind is intrigued by the rich history of the region, which dates back to the 1800s. We are also conveniently located close to Weston, Treverton, Clifton Notties and Michaelhouse schools as well as a number of popular wedding venues. Though Manwood Lodge is self catering, there are numerous restaurants, bars and coffee shops close by.

Kwazulu Natal

Also known as "the garden province" due to its wide range of fauna and flora, Kwazulu (meaning place of the Zulu) Natal was formed in 1994 when the Zulu Bantusan of Kwazulu and Natal Province merged. Kwazulu Natal boasts two of the world's UNESCO World Heritage sites, namely the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park and the Ukhahlamba Drakensburg Park, both of which are named as places of international importance as they are home to many migratory species. There are also plenty of wildlife reserves which protect most of South Africa's biggest mammals including the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino).

Kwazulu Natal is not only rich in fauna and flora but historically it is a treat for anyone who has a strong penchant for the past. Many a battle took place here as the British fought  against the Boers and the South African/Boer War. For a compete map of the battledfields click here.
